To ensure the applications installed on your computer offer the highest level of protection and provide the latest features, you must keep them updated. Updates bring with them security patches, new features, stability fixes, and so on. How can you stay on top of your applications and ensure they are always up to date?

Why you could use a small utility developed by the Clean Softs Professional Association. I am of course talking about Update Notifier. The functionality this application provides is quite easy to explain: it will scan your computer for installed applications, then will display a list of available updates.

Why would you want such an application on your computer? For two reasons:

1. Some applications do not have an automatic update feature. If you installed version 1.0, you’ll be stuck with that even though version 7.5 is already out. Why are you stuck with it? Because you did not bother to check for updates and because the app did not inform you an update is available. You can ensure you have the latest update by running the Update Notifier utility.

2. Even if all your applications had an automatic update feature, can you stay on top of all your applications? Most of us have quite a lot of applications installed on our systems. Instead of opening each one and checking for updates, you can launch just one utility: Update Notifier.

After you download the application (should take but a moment since it weighs in at less than 500KB), you have two options at your disposal: you can install it, or you can run it as a portable application. Update Notifier will work with any version of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system, including the latest iteration, Windows 7. Oh, and it also works free of charge. That’s right, Update Notifier is freeware.

It’s easy to use, it’s free, it’s portable, and it tells you what applications need to be updated. What’s not t like about Update Notifier? I for one could not think of anything.
